Clinical Volunteers
Volunteers are important
resources within our health care community. The donation of time to those in
need can go a long way in helping to provide safe quality care to patients and
families within our community. Adults and students from all walks of life find
personal fulfillment in helping others. Volunteers provide service in both
patient care and non-patient care areas. Clinical volunteers play a huge role
in ensuring positive patient and family satisfaction.
Clinical Volunteer Opportunities
Information
Desk/Greeter: Greet and escort patients, families and visitors to
various departments and clinics within the hospital. A resource center that provides information
about parking, hand hygiene, printed material, internet access etc.
Meal Assistant: The
volunteer will be asked to help with the activities that support a minimum
level of nutrition care – focusing on promoting food intake and minimizing
barriers to food intake. Offering
patients encouragement during mealtimes and social interaction.
Surgical Services: Volunteers assist staff in a variety of ways to ensure quality of care. Duties include greeting patients, supplying
snacks and refreshments after surgery, assisting patients when discharged.
Patient Support for Clinics: Help with patient flow through the clinic
area to help ease the anxiety of a hospital visit ensuring quality of care and providing a warm caring atmosphere.
Social Rehabilitation: The volunteers
will visit with patients,
provide nourishment and escort them as directed by Nursing.
How to Apply?
Before
you apply to become a clinical volunteer, please review the following list of
requirements;
- Volunteering entails making a
regular commitment with a minimum commitment of one 2-3 hour shift
monthly;
- Minimum age requirement: 16
years or older;
- Volunteers are selected and
placed according to the needs of the hospital, interests and skills,
availability and suitability. Evening and weekend opportunities are
limited.

Due to the number of applications and limited positions, unfortunately not
everyone will be contacted for an interview.
Successful applicants will be required to complete the following;
- Volunteers must successfully complete a Health
Assessment before commencing their placements. This includes proof of
immunizations including Covid-19, TB testing and Flu Shot (in flu season);
- Attend a scheduled orientation; and
- Provide a current Criminal Reference check with
vulnerable sector (valid within 1 year).
